Exposing the growing gender-biased society prevailing in our small universe, the UN children’s agency revealed that a girl child spends nearly forty per cent more time performing household jobs than a boy child. Even in our houses, we may have several times noticed that our parents often give more jobs to a girl child compared to a boy. Did we ever think why they show such discrimination? Most probably, we may not have thought about it. Here, through a clear study report, the UN children’s agency exposes a shocking reality that we intentionally or unintentionally forget or ignore at some point of time during your happy family life. It is estimated that in terms of working hours our little sisters spend nearly 160m extra hours a day than us worldwide. At least two out of three girls clean and cook. Meanwhile, nearly half collect either water or firewood. Moreover, our sisters are often asked to perform some invisible jobs like elderly care, child care, and much more. The tragic fact is that most of them sacrifice their education in order to perform such duties. As the girl grows older, the responsibilities also increase accordingly. The report also identified that those girls who go out for fetching water or firewood are extremely vulnerable to sexual abuses. It is very unfortunate that in this most modern era, we are still discussing gender equality. Experts say that practicing this kind of habits will only contribute in generating a gender stereotype.
