In order to give voice to the Dalit movement born in the Indian state of Gujarat, young Dalit leader, Jignesh Mewani, who is the backbone of the aggressive Dalit movement, is set to contest in the state assembly election from Vadgam, situated in North Gujarat.
He has used his twitter handle to announce his decision to take part in the 2017 assembly election, which is considered as the most crucial elections in the history of state.
As per the latest updates, he is going to contest as an independent candidate. But, there have been reports that the Dalit leader is likely to get the support of the Congress party, which is trying to consolidate all the anti-BJP forces in a single platform.
It is said that the congress would not file a candidate in the aforementioned constituency, where the Dalit leader is going to contest. It is learned that it would ask their party members to give their support to the leader in whatever ways he demands.
For the last few years, the Dalit activist has been aggressively campaigning against the BJP’s saffron politics, in which the upper cast gains more prominence than the lower cast, particularly than the Dalits, which is the most vulnerable section.
Earlier, Mr. Mewani asserted that he would make sure that the BJP suffer a huge defeat in the upcoming election.
