In a bid to tackle the disturbance erupted in Honduras after the declaration of an pro-government election result, which has been termed as a ‘fraudulent election result’ by the opposition, the Central American country has declared a state of emergency and allowed the security forces to assume more powers.
In the initial stage of the election, Salvador Nasralla had a clear majority over the Honduras President, Juan Orlando Hernandez. Later, the lead that the opposition candidate gained over the ruling party’s candidate slipped, raising suspicion over the way in which those participated in the counting process handled the ballet boxes and ballet paper. Finally, when the result was announced, the Honduras Supremo won the election.
The country has been witnessing severe violence since the declaration of the election. There have been allegations that the government is using the security forces to attack those who support the opposition.
As per the latest report, the state of emergency in Honduras will be in place for the next ten days.
At present, this country is an epicenter of corruption and criminal activities in the Central American region.
There is no doubt that the disturbances in this region would further change the situation from ‘bad’ to ‘worse’.
