Hours after a deal with the United Nations to resettle the African migrants who are living in Israel was launched, the Jewish country, inviting serious criticism, has suspended it citing that the country needs to talk with the Tel Aviv residents where the majority of the African migrants reside presently before proceeding with it.
The United Nations deal was meant to replace the controversial deportation move proposed by the Jewish country. The deportation move advocated the forceful deportation of all male African migrants to the African countries.
When the deportation move invited serious criticism, the UN deal, which was reached to contain the criticism, resulted in a severe word-war between the Israel government’s coalition members.
As per the proposed UN deal, for every African migrant resettled in the west, Israel must give temporary residence status to a migrant in the country.
The conservative parties (mostly the centre-right parties) and the anti-migrant groups operating in the country strongly stand against the UN deal and have been campaigning against all kinds of settlements which involve the resettlement of the African migrants in Israel.
The majority of the African migrants who are presently residing in the country reached here several years before through the (then) unfenced Egypt-Israel border (where a strong fence has been installed in the recent past).
A migrant, for his African migrant community, asks; “will Israel deport them if their skin tone is white.”
