Italian students protest over improper ‘Internship’ policy

Taking a stiff stand against the, so-called, ‘internship exploitation’, the Italian school students have organised severe protests across the country, particularly in cities such as Rome, Naples, Milan and Salerno.

At a juncture, the rallies have turned violent. The protesters, in some regions, have attacked the multinational companies’ outlets, which provide internship opportunities to the students.

The protesters have claimed that the multinational companies, in the name of the internship, exploit the student population. They have demanded that the government should make a clear policy on who can offer the internship program and who cannot. They have alleged that most of the companies who offer the internship very often exploit the students by not providing quality work experience.

The ruling Centre-Left Democratic Party, who introduced the internship program, has supported their policy by saying that the policy is aimed at providing adequate work experience and work knowledge to the students.

Anyway, the concerned government authorities have assured that they would take all the possible initiative to maintain the quality of the internship program.

Notably, a multinational company has asserted that their internship programs are aimed at giving the students adequate work experience.

It seems that the student’s movement will prompt the centre-leftist government to frame a strong policy having proper guidelines on who can and who cannot offer the internship.
