While the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, is preparing to deliver the state budget, all eyes are closely watching the developments with a curious look.
Will he announce a populist budget, like the one which was announced by the central government and Rajasthan, and which received the criticism of the Congress party which rules the Southern state?
Karnataka is an agrarian state. If the party which rules the state announce populist policies like farm loan waivers and pro-agricultural policies through the budget, it can easily win the heart of the agrarian population -thus win the votes of the section.
Though it is the most perfect tactics the ruling Congress party can do in the state which is at the edge of the assembly election, the grand old party which strongly criticised the use of budget as a tool to appease the voters has a moral obligation to avoid the replication of the BJP’s populist style.
This year’s budget is the thirteenth budget of the senior congress leader, who holds the portfolio of the state finance minister in addition to the top post of the state.
It is to be noted that the budget which is going to be presented today in the assembly is the sixth budget of the leader in a row.
