Kerala leftists set to erect women’s wall to propagate the values of state renaissance movement

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), the party that rules the Indian state of Kerala, along with many prominent caste-based organisations such as Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam and Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha, is set to erect a women’s wall from the state’s northernmost tip, Kasaragod, to its southernmost tip, Trivandrum, to propagate the values, gifted to the Kerala society by the state renaissance movement, in which the god like figure of the state’s one of most dominant castes Ezhava and of their organisation SNDP Sree Narayana Guru played a prominent role.

The leftist leaders have asserted that as many as 31 lakh women would participate in the women’s wall.

The CPM is not the direct organiser of the program. There are many who are doing that job along with the communists. Apart from the leftist parties, all other organisers behind this herculean task are caste based organisations. Interestingly, except the leftist parties, no organisation has the opinion that the wall is going to be erected in support of the Supreme Court verdict, which allows the entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala Temple where the entry of women aged between ten and fifty is traditionally banned, and against which the rightist organisations including the RSS have launched severe campaigns including ‘Ayyappa Jyothi’ in the state recently.

There is a fear among a section of the society that the proposed wall may divide the Kerala society on the lines of caste.

It is suspected that some behind the program are more eager to make the wall give what message the wall should not give. It is high time to pinpoint those, and throw them away, if the stress is on the values of the state renaissance.

There is no dispute that all societies must learn about the values contributed to them by their enlightened forefathers. The confusing thing is from where that knowledge is earned. Anyway, there is no confusion in one thing that the rulers are not the ideal source of that knowledge as most rulers are more interested in their personal gain than the overall gain of society.

Many celebrities including actresses and writers are expected to participate in the event. If the event proves anything more than a mere publicity stunt or a mere electoral strategy, it will have a place in the history; if not, noting can stop it from going into the unsung locker of historic blunders.

Stand for Values!
