Lithuanian elections: LPGU grabs astounding victory

The ‘Lithuanian Peasants and Green Union’ has marked an astonishing victory in the Lithuanian elections, paving a way to the induction of new faces into the government as political executives. As per the report, the agrarian party grabbed nearly forty per cent seats by winning fifty-four out of one hundred and forty-one seats. At the same time, the ‘Homeland party’ got around thirty-one seats and the ‘Social Democrats’ secured nearly seventeen seats. Notably, the ‘Social Democrats’ was one of the most powerful parties in the previous government. Now, the LPGU can approach either the Homeland party or the Social Democrats to form a government. Interestingly, Ramunas Karbauskis, one of the senior leaders of LPGU, has raised the possibility of creating a grand alliance incorporating all the political parties and representatives. It is said that he is trying to create a technocratic government. The political analysts opined that it was an unexpected victory. They added that it proves the people need new faces as the political executives. While speaking to the reporters, Saulius Skvernelis, LPGU prime ministerial candidate, asserted that his government will be a transparent and responsible government. It is said that the LPGU is a pro-EU and pro-Nato party so it will keep the country firmly inside the European Union. The flow of workers from Lithuania to other parts of Europe is the biggest crisis the country is currently facing. This country’s population is rampantly shrinking. Creating job opportunities will be the biggest challenge before the new government.
