Marking an end to months-long uncertainty, the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, who failed to secure a simple majority in the last general election, has finally reached a ‘coalition agreement’ with the Social Democrats (SPD).
While speaking to the media personals, the German leader has asserted that the new agreement it has reached with the SPD would stand as a base to form a stable government.
It was the distribution of the ministries among the coalition partners which stood as a final constraint to reach such an agreement.
It is learned that the German supremo was the one who took serious initiative to remove the last and most serious constraint.
A political expert claims that still there is a constraint left in the game. He adds that it is the SPD members’ approval on the agreement.
Unfortunately, the SPD leader has not yet reached a consensus on whether to join Merkel’s coalition or not. It is said that still a large section of the SPD members dislikes the move to join the coalition.
The SPD and Merkel’s parties (CDU and CSU) performed badly in the last German General Election.
Among the three, the Social Democrats was the party which suffered serious injury in the election.
Most Social Democrats believes it was their association with the Merkel’s party which distanced them from the German electorate.
