Now, even Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who earlier showed no interest to believe the superstitious beliefs surrounding Chamarajanagar, will admit that there is some kind of mystery surrounding the town.
Chamarajanagar town, the main centre of the Chamarajanagar district, is popularly known as the graveyard of Chief Ministers.
There is a belief prevailing among the members of a section of the Kannadiga society that those Chief Ministers who visit this town will not last longer in power.
The belief emerged after the disastrous electoral failure of former Karnataka Chief Minister D Devaraj Urs. Apart from the state’s longest serving Chief Minister, many of his successors such as R Gundu Rao, RamaKrishna Hegde, S R Bommai and Veerendra Patil, who showed courage to visit this town, failed to last longer in power.
For this reason, many Chief Ministers avoided the town during the election campaigns. H D Kumaraswamy became the last official victim of the Chamarajanagar town visit, when his coalition government collapsed shortly after he boasted publically as the first CM to visit the city in seventeen years.
The present Karnataka CM has visited this mysterious town at least nine times after assuming the post of the Supremo.
The latest election trend, which clearly indicates a power shift in the state, gives more reasons to those who blindly believe the mystery of this town.
Will the Karnataka’s future CM have courage to visit this town?
