Nicaraguan government uses pro-government paramilitary groups to suppress Students Protest: Amnesty International

A reputed International human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, has found that the Nicaraguan government, which recently provoked its citizens by scrapping some welfare schemes, has used some pro-government paramilitary groups to suppress the national wide students protest, which seeks the resignation of President Daniel Ortega.

Recently, another International human rights watchdog also made similar observation when it visited this country on a mission to observe how the Nicaraguan government was handling the student protest.

The International human rights watchdogs have unanimously recommended the constitution of an independent investigation team to probe the allegations triggered against the ruling regime of Nicaragua.

Meanwhile, the Nicaraguan government tries to reject the recommendations made by the human rights groups, citing that they have already created a commission to probe the violence.

Since the eruption of the violent protest, as many as eighty people, mainly young students, has been killed in the violence.

It was the government’s move to scrap the welfare schemes which triggered the national wide student protest. Though the government latter withdrew its decision to scrap the welfare schemes, the protesters showed no interest to stop their protest. After the withdrawal of the government’s proposal seeking the scrapping of welfare schemes, the protesters changed their demand from the withdrawal of the proposal to the resignation of the President.

Is it right to use a private army to suppress descend? Why can’t the world powers intervene?
