North Ireland elections: DUP and Sinn Fein make gains

In the crucial North Ireland assembly election, the DUP and Sinn Fein have made huge gains by grabbing twenty-eight seats and twenty-seven seats respectively. When the DUP has maintained its dominance in the assembly election, the Sinn Fein has improved its support base in several crucial regions. It is said that the Sinn Fein has been largely benefited from the new nationalist trend that inflicted entire Europe recently.

Admitting that the people did not take his statements into consideration, taking the responsibility of the pathetic failure of the Ulster Unionist party, its leader, Mike Nesbitt, has announced his resignation. Several prominent politicians have unexpectedly tasted the bitterness of the failure this time. This list includes two DUP ministers, one SDLP minister, and one Ulster Unionist minister. The result of all the ninety seats has been declared. According to the status report, DUP stands at 28; Sinn Fein gains 27 seats; SDLP secures 12 seats; UUP wins 10 seats; APNI and Green clinch 8 victories and 2 victories respectively; TUV, PBPA and IND mark one victory each. Several constituencies have witnessed tight competition. The turnout has been the highest since 1998. Nearly 64.8% people has casted their vote. Experts say that as we can see a clear growth of Sinn Fein, it is evident that the nationalist concepts are gaining more acceptances in the region. This region is one of the crucial regions under the United Kingdom so the election result may have definitely shocked those political observers who stand for the globalisation and open markets.
