While our world is celebrating the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’, an International women and child rights NGO, Action Aid, has revealed a shocking survey report regarding the violence against women that raises serious concern about the Indian women’s safety.As per their survey report, over four in ten women in India face some kind of violence before the age of nineteen.The survey to analyze the women safety has been conducted in four countries, including India, Brazil, Thailand, and UK.Notably, the survey has identified that some women experience this bitter reality for the first time in their childhood itself.
The survey report points out that nearly six per cent of the women confronts violence for the first time before the age of ten. In Brazil and UK, the rates are 16 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, In Thailand, the rate stands at 8 per cent.Another survey report has revealed that in the last month itself, nearly 73 per cent women in our country have experienced some kind of violence.The survey report has further identified that against such bitter practices, the Indian women have started taking their own defensive steps, like avoiding dark and crowded regions, carrying key chains and pepper spray, and et al. Experts say that the educated population should eliminate the objectification of women’s body from our society, and try to establish a peaceful and comfortable environment for our co-inhabitants.This day is dedicated by the UN to raise awareness of the fact that the women or our co-inhabitants are subject to domestic violence, rape and other forms of violence.
