Rae Bareli NTPC unit explosion: over 20 personals killed

Nearly twenty people have been killed and several others seriously injured in a boiler tube explosion at the National Thermal Power Cooperation unit situated in Rae Bareli in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

An unconfirmed report has claimed that as many as ninety people have been injured in the accident. The report has added that most of those injured are in critical condition, indicating that the death toll is likely to rise in coming hours.

A National Disaster Response Force team, having nearly thirty-two experienced professions, has reached the venue to carry out the rescue operation. At present, the rescue operation is underway. Along with the NDRF officials, the district officials, policemen and CRPF soldiers are participating in the operation.

In an unacknowledged report, it has been stated that the uncommon process of gathering of ash in the boiler has led to the blast of the boiler. The report has raised suspicion over the blast of the new boiler, which was actually installed around six months ago.

The UP CM, Yogi Adityanath, who is presently in Mauritius on an official trip, has directed the Principal Secretary of Home Department to personally monitor the rescue operation. The CM has also asked the concerned to grant an ex gratia compensation of two lakh Indian rupees to each family which has lost a member in the brutal accident, fifty thousand Indian rupees to those seriously injured in the accident and twenty-five thousand Indian rupees to those injured.
