While speaking at a function organised at the Dr MGR Education and Research Institute, the South Indian superstar who recently entered the turbulent platform of Tamil Nadu politics, Rajnikanth, claimed that he wants to bring back the MGR-style of rule in the state, clearly indicating the path that he is following through his controversial ideology ‘spiritual politics’.
Calling M G Ramachandran as ‘yuga purushan’, the Tamil superstar praised the former CM’s way of governance (which, he said, was a kind of governance focused to aid poor and downtrodden).
Answering the widely asked question why he decided to join the politics, he said he wanted to fill the vacuum created after the unexpected demise of J Jayalalithaa and the untimely retirement of M Karunanidhi.
M G R was a renowned film actor when he came to the world of politics. When he entered into the politics, there was no clear space for an actor-turned politician in the Tamil Nadu political hemisphere. Nonetheless, through his hard work and determination, he carved a space and defeated and suppressed his political opponents.
Like M G R, Rajnikanth is also a charismatic hero. What the superstar with a huge aspiration lacks is the political skill which late former Chief Minister MGR and his prime protégée, another late former actor-turned CM, possessed.
