Giving clear indication that the BJP government is not willing to allow anyone to tamper with the government’s image, Smriti Irani lost her HRD ministry to Prakash Javadekar, one of the junior ministers in the PM Modi-led government. Earlier, there were reports that the PMO and HRD ministry had engaged in a bitter battle over the IIM bill, which seeks government’s participation in day to day affairs of IIM. Moreover, the HRD ministry has also engaged in a tug-of-war with the Niti Aayog members. Both of them shared different opinion on issues like accreditation and many more. Experts claim that the education lobby close to the centre government may have prompted the BJP government to take such a severe step.
Anyway, Irani still remains as the core group member of the party. Some observes that the party may have huge plans for Irani. A source reveals that the star member may be projected as the UP’s CM candidate for the upcoming elections. Earlier, there were reports that Varun Gandhi would be projected to that position. It seems that after receiving wide criticism over the move, the party ditched the option. Uttar Pradesh assembly election is one of the crucial elections, and it will decide the strength of the Modi-faction in BJP. In the recent past, Irani had confronted strong flak from several corners of society over ‘degree row’, ‘JNU row’, ‘Hyderabad Dalit student death row’, and many more.
