SC directs HCs to conduct trials in child sexual abuse cases in fast-tracked manner

In a bid to make sure that no delay causes to the trials of cases related to child sexual abuses, the top court of the country has directed the High Courts to conduct trials in child sexual abuse cases in a fast-tracked manner.

The historic verdict has come as an outcome of a Public Interest Litigation submitted by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava in his personal capacity, and has been made by a beach comprised of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Judges A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud.

The Supreme Court has also asked the High Courts to constitute a three judges committee to regularly monitor cases related to child sexual abuses.

A couple of days before, accepting people’s demand, the central cabinet of the central government decided to amend laws related to child sexual abuses in a way which makes the merciless act of sexual abuses against children below the age of twelve a crime to be awarded the stringent punishment of death penalty.

For last few weeks, the country has been witnessing serious protests demanding serious punishments against those arrested in connection with the Kathua incident and Unnao incident.
