The Supreme Court has questioned the criteria followed by the authorities to fill the apex forum of the Central Information Commission. The court has asked why the authorities have only allowed those from the category of bureaucrats to become the member of the apex forum of the CIC. It has pointed out that nowhere in the 2005 Right to Information act it is said that only bureaucrats should be allowed to fill the key posts of the CIC.
The act allows any eminent person to become the member of the apex forum of the Central Information Commission.
The observation has come when the court has considered a petition submitted in connection with the issue by Anjali Bhardwaj, represented by advocate Pranav Sachdeva.
Meanwhile, the government’s representative has informed the court that the appointments have not been done hurriedly. The representative has also said that the appointment possess has not been finished yet either.
Anyway, Judge A K Sikri has orally observed that it is felt the only people eligible for the CIC posts are those belong to certain category.
