Spanish constitutional court annuals Catalan bullfight ban

Dismissing the claims raised by the Catalan regionalist activists, a constitutional court of Spain has reportedly annulled the Catalan bullfight ban, observing the bull fight is the part of Spanish heritage. The Catalonia local authorities, in 2010, had imposed a complete ban on the bull fight in the region, saying the bull fight is incompatible with the Catalan culture and heritage. But, some centre-rightist activists believe that the Catalan regionalist activists are trying to impose some anti-Spanish culture in the region by supporting a blanket ban on the Spanish traditional games like the bull fight, by highlighting pro-Catalan statements. Fearing the rampant growth of the regionalist movement, some local leaders of the centre-rightist Popular Party challenged the, so called, unconstitutional ban. While speaking to the social media followers after the announcement of the verdict, a prime fighter of pro-Spain faction, Alicia Sanchez-Camacho, announces that she wholeheartedly welcomes the court’s order. She further added that her party will strongly defend the Spanish heritage. Meanwhile, the animal right activists denounced the verdict, calling it as a politically motivated decision. Earlier, both supporters and opponents staged numerous protest and demonstrations across the region highlighting each group’s demands. Anyway, the centre-rightist has an upper hand in the government and they are definitely not going to tolerate any pro-regionalist, dissident, voices. However, Catalonia is not the only region that opposes bull fight. Earlier, the Canary Island had also banned this traditional game. It seems that the issue has opened up a possibility of a direct confrontation between the pro-regionalist and pro-nationalist in Spain.
