A state-wide strike organised by some regional non-political organisations of ‘Kannadigas’ to exert pressure on the concerned authorities to take a ‘pro-Kannadiga’ stand on the Mahadayi water-sharing dispute between the Indian state of Karnataka and Goa has badly affected the normal life of people living in the state.
The strike has disrupted the public transportation facilities of the state. As a result of this, tens of thousands of people have been left stranded in the bus stations and other public transport stations.
The state-wide bandh is affecting all regions of the state equally. Almost all schools, business and public offices are remaining closed.
Bangalore, which is the prime business destination of the state, is one of the regions which are suffering the most due to the bandh. Of those numerous business sectors operating in the region, the IT industry sector is one of the sectors which have been badly affected by the strike. For the first time in the recent history of the district which is popularly known as the IT capital of the country or the Silicon Valley of country, the functioning of almost all IT companies, including those situated in the tech parks, has been disrupted. There are clear indications that the efforts to disrupt the sector are well-calculated.
Several protesters and demonstrates have organised marches and demonstrations across the state.
