Tito Jackson, a founding member of the legendary pop group the Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 70. His sons TJ, Taj, and Taryll announced his death in a heartfelt social media statement, describing their father as a caring and beloved figure. While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, family friend and former manager Steve Manning told “Entertainment Tonight” that Jackson likely suffered a heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma.
Born on October 15, 1953, Tito Jackson was the third of nine siblings in the Jackson family, which produced global music icons like Michael and Janet Jackson. Although he played a quieter role as a guitarist and background vocalist in the Jackson 5, Tito contributed to the group’s many hit songs, including “ABC” and “I’ll Be There.” The family group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, cementing their legacy as pioneers of pop music.
Tito Jackson, who continued to perform with his brothers into his later years, is survived by his sons, his siblings Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, Jackie, Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya, and their mother, Katherine Jackson. His father, Joe Jackson, passed away in 2018. Tito had also pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album Tito Time in 2016 and a song titled “Love One Another,” featuring his sons’ group, 3T, and Stevie Wonder.
