The member of the European Council has re-elected the Poland’s representative and incumbent EC President, Donald Tusk, as the supremo of the council once again despite the Warsaw’s opposition. Tusk has received nearly twenty-seven votes in favour of his appointment to the post, while his homeland has become the sole negative vote. There were speculations that the UK government might also vote against the EU’s incumbent supremo in order to gain the Poland’s support in the upcoming negotiations regarding the Brexit with the European Union. But, it has never happened. The Polish government, denouncing the Tusk’s inception in the top EC post, alleges that Tusk has misused his position by interfering in the domestic affairs of his homeland. Meanwhile, other European countries, including Germany, have extended strong support to Tusk. Moreover, majority of them has released statements in favour of Tusk.
The Poland’s government has reason to oppose the Tusk’s bid as he represents the rival faction of the ruling government. Tusk was the Prime Minister of Poland during the year 2007-2014. He represents a centre-right faction. However, Tusk will enjoy the most prestigious position, EC President, till 2019. The position bestowed on him possesses great responsibility and demands high diplomatic skill. The European Council brings together the leaders of twenty-eight European Union countries under a single platform in order to make a consensus in the policies. It is also instrumental in clearing tensions and misunderstandings between the European Union members.
