Why TN CM silent about murdered Salem girl, asks Dalit leader from Gujarat

At the time the ruling political party of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu is leading a fierce political campaign against a Tamil film which depicts some of their welfare schemes in a way unacceptable to them, a Dalit lawmaker-cum-activist from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani, has triggered a sharp question, potential enough to blunt the campaign, at the Dravidian party by asking ‘why the chief minister of the state is silent about the Dalit girl who was brutally murdered recently in Salem’.

The sharp question has caught the Tamil Nadu government off guard. The Gujarati leader’s statement prompts the government to express its priority.

Till now, noting regarding this has been communicated to the media houses by the government. But, it is less likely to remain in the state of silent in this matter for long as it may adversely damage their image among the Dalit population of the state, whose confidence and support are vital for all political parties that aim big in the state.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered in connection with the brutal murder of the girl in the Tamil Nadu district of Salem. An investigation into the murder is progressing.

More details are awaited.
