Putting an end to the uncertainty that followed the inconclusive election result of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, the BJP leader and saffron party’s chief ministerial candidate, B S Yeddyurappa, has been invited by the state governor, Vajubhai Vala, to take oath as the chief minister.
Several renowned personalities have participated in the colourful oath taking ceremony that has taken place at Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru, an hour before.
It is not the first time that this BJP leader has enjoyed the warmth of the CM seat. Prior to this, at least two times he has been on it.
Last day, the Supreme Court, though at first agreed to hear the petition seeking the cancellation of the oath taking ceremony, disagreed to take such a stiff action against the governor’s decision to invite the leader of the party which score the maximum number of seat in the legislative assembly in the election to form the government.
The election result was originally released on May 15. As per the election result, the BJP was the single largest party, with nearly 104 seats, and the Congress and JD(S) was the second largest and third largest, with around 78 and over 37 seats respectively.
Had the nominated head of the state ignored all kinds of political thoughts while taking his decision on who should be invited to form the government, the JD(S) led congress-JD(S)-BSP coalition –formed after the declaration of the election result- would have been permitted to form the government.
There is no doubt that the newly inducted CM would get enough time to prove his majority in the legislative assembly.
Is this an opportunity for the BJP to test the infamous Operation Kamala once again? How should and how will all those who believe in the democratic framework of the country react if such an undemocratic tactics is executed?
