Estee Lauder is stepping up brand investments and reducing its reliance on discounts and promotional offers as its turnaround strategy gains momentum. Chief Executive Stephane de La Faverie announced the move on Monday after the cosmetics giant raised its annual financial forecasts, citing resilient demand for prestige beauty products among affluent consumers and younger shoppers. Luxury fragrance brands such as Le Labo, Tom Ford and Jo Malone London, along with premium skincare products, have continued to attract spending despite broader economic uncertainty.
Mainland China has emerged as a key growth driver, with the company reporting a 9% increase in organic sales, matching the growth recorded a year earlier. Estee Lauder is increasing consumer-focused investments to strengthen brand awareness and desirability while expanding its presence across digital platforms, including Amazon Premium Beauty, Shopee, TikTok Shop, Tmall and Douyin. The company also expects its cosmetics category to return to growth next quarter, supported by improving market share for brands such as MAC and Tom Ford. Its Americas organic sales rose 4%, recovering from a 2% decline in the previous year.
Under its ‘Beauty Reimagined’ turnaround strategy, Estee Lauder is prioritising product innovation, expanding distribution channels, leveraging artificial intelligence and streamlining operations. The company raised its fiscal 2027 organic sales growth forecast to 4%–5.5%, compared with its earlier estimate of 3%–5%, while increasing its adjusted earnings outlook to $3.20–$3.45 per share. First-quarter sales climbed 7% to $3.72 billion, exceeding market expectations, while adjusted earnings reached 72 cents per share against estimates of 51 cents. Following the announcement, the company’s shares rose nearly 3% in premarket trading.
