U.S. House Democrats are preparing an extensive investigative strategy targeting President Donald Trump’s business, political and financial networks if they regain control of the chamber in November. Rather than immediately pursuing impeachment, Democratic leaders and committee aides are considering hearings, subpoenas and document requests to build evidence around potential conflicts of interest, government contracts and dealings involving Trump and his allies.
The planned probes could examine companies and financial firms with ties to the administration, including Apple, Alphabet, Palantir, Blackstone, BlackRock and Elon Musk-linked businesses such as Tesla. Democrats are also expected to scrutinize Department of Homeland Security contracts, financing for Trump’s planned White House ballroom, corporate donations, alleged pay-to-play arrangements and Trump-linked investment vehicles. The sources stressed that no final target list has been established and no formal investigations have begun.
Democrats say impeachment would remain an option if investigations uncover evidence of an impeachable offense, but they do not want it to be their opening move. The party’s strategy reflects lessons from Trump’s first term, when two House impeachments ended in Senate acquittals. With Republicans currently holding a narrow House majority, Democrats believe winning control would give them subpoena and oversight powers to pursue a broader investigation and potentially build a stronger case for accountability.
