British pharmaceutical company GSK announced a £400 million investment over the next three years to strengthen its UK operations, including relocating its research and development activities to a new Cambridge facility. The move is part of CEO Luke Miels’ strategy to accelerate drug development and boost innovation.
The new 300,000-square-foot Cambridge research center will house more than 1,000 scientists focused on key therapeutic areas such as cancer and respiratory diseases. GSK will close its Stevenage R&D site by 2029 while upgrading its Ware facility, with its global headquarters remaining in London.
The investment follows recent UK government efforts to strengthen the life sciences sector and comes after a UK-U.S. agreement on medicine pricing. GSK currently invests more than £6 billion annually in R&D, including over £1.5 billion in the UK.
