Nestlé is making its biggest-ever international sports sponsorship move through a new NBA partnership for its cocoa and malt beverages business, including Milo, Nesquik and Nescau. The four-continent deal spans 21 countries and aims to encourage at least 2.5 million young people to become physically active, as the food giant seeks to connect with increasingly health-conscious Gen Z and Gen Alpha consumers.
The partnership reflects a wider shift among consumer goods companies toward sports as a way to build cultural relevance and engage younger audiences. Nestlé plans to highlight the protein and fibre content of its beverages while linking the campaign to physical activity and broader health trends, including the growing popularity of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs. The NBA, which reaches fans in 214 countries and territories, said companies are increasingly seeking integrated, multi-market partnerships rather than traditional sponsorships.
Sports sponsorships are becoming a major marketing tool for consumer brands, offering opportunities beyond live-event advertising through social media, creators and community engagement. Nestlé previously expanded its global sports strategy with a KitKat partnership with Formula 1 covering 2025 to 2028. Industry experts say such deals allow brands to build stronger emotional connections with consumers while reaching fragmented younger audiences across multiple platforms.
