Actor Robert De Niro Testifies in Lawsuit Over Allegations of Abusive Behavior

Renowned Hollywood actor Robert De Niro took the stand on Monday in a high-profile trial resulting from a lawsuit filed by his former personal assistant, Graham Chase Robinson. Robinson, who had worked for De Niro between 2008 and 2019, is suing the two-time Oscar-winning actor for $12 million, alleging severe emotional distress and reputational harm. The lawsuit revolves around a voicemail in which De Niro used profanity and accusations of discrimination and harassment. During his testimony, De Niro, known for iconic roles in movies such as “The Deer Hunter” and “Raging Bull,” vehemently denied the accusations and expressed frustration with the ongoing legal battle.

Robert De Niro, 80, testified at length, defending his interactions with Robinson and his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, who he said played a role in the disputes between them. De Niro twice raised his voice during his testimony, once while defending his interactions with Chen, and the second time when questioned about a 2017 incident where he fell down stairs and needed medical attention. The actor asserted that he treated Robinson well and that the allegations against him were “nonsense.” The trial continues as both sides present their cases before the court.

In the opening statements preceding De Niro’s testimony, Robinson’s attorney, Andrew Macurdy, claimed that Robinson had been unable to secure a job and had been living in fear since leaving her position with De Niro. He alleged that the actor would yell at her and use sexist language. De Niro’s attorney, Richard Schoenstein, countered by describing Robinson as condescending and controlling and said that she played the victim. The trial also involves counterclaims by De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, which has sued Robinson. The case continues to be closely watched by the public as it unfolds in New York City.
