Bestselling mystery writer Brendan DuBois, renowned for his novels and collaborations with James Patterson, has been arraigned on multiple felony counts related to possessing child sexual abuse materials. The 64-year-old author, hailing from Exeter, New Hampshire, was arrested following an investigation by local authorities and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. Police discovered at least 35 visual representations depicting minors engaged in various sexual acts in his possession.
DuBois, whose novels include “The Summer House” and “Blowback,” co-written with Patterson, is currently held at Rockingham County Jail pending legal proceedings. His publisher, Severn River Publishing, has taken swift action in response to the allegations, suspending all promotion and sales of his books. In a statement, the company expressed deep concern over the allegations and emphasized their commitment to upholding ethical standards within the publishing community.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the ongoing investigation, and DuBois’ lawyer, Harry Starbranch, has not provided comment on the case. The charges against DuBois have reverberated through literary circles, prompting discussions about accountability and the safeguarding of vulnerable populations within the industry.
