Bill Maher Urges Biden to Drop Out, Endorses Gavin Newsom for 2024 Presidential Race

HBO’s Bill Maher has called President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race following what Maher described as Biden’s disastrous debate performance. In a guest essay for the New York Times, Maher suggested that Biden’s continued candidacy is a risk to the stability and security of the country, drawing comparisons to the TV show “Happy Days” and its infamous “jumping the shark” moment. He emphasized that the Democratic Party needs fresh faces and new energy to combat the growing challenges.

Maher endorsed California Governor Gavin Newsom as Biden’s replacement, praising Newsom for his articulate and forceful presence. Maher highlighted Newsom’s ability to remain composed and unshakable, which he believes is crucial in a potential contest against former President Donald Trump. “He’s unbullyable, and that’s important against Mr. Trump,” Maher said, criticizing Biden’s insistence on staying in the race as an act of “supreme selfishness.”

The New York Times editorial board also echoed Maher’s sentiments, urging Biden to step aside for the betterment of the Democratic Party and the country. They stressed that forcing voters to choose between Trump’s and Biden’s deficiencies is too risky. Maher proposed holding an open Democratic convention, arguing that it would generate unprecedented enthusiasm and engagement, essential for a successful 2024 campaign.
