Brazil’s government authorities and federal prosecutors have given Elon Musk’s xAI 30 days to stop its Grok chatbot from circulating fake sexualized content, according to a joint statement issued on Tuesday. The Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon, the data protection authority ANPD, and the Office of Federal Prosecutors warned that they may take further administrative or judicial action if X and xAI fail to comply with the order.
The authorities directed xAI to develop and implement technical procedures within the deadline to identify, review, and remove inappropriate content, and to take down accounts linked to the production of such material. The move comes amid growing international scrutiny of AI-generated sexual content and deepfake imagery, as governments tighten regulations to curb illegal and abusive material online.
While xAI had earlier said it restricted Grok’s image editing capabilities, Brazilian regulators noted that the issue has not been fully contained. Although Grok has reportedly rolled back public posting of hyper-realistic sexualized imagery on X, a Reuters test found that the chatbot was still privately generating such content on demand as of Tuesday, keeping the platform under pressure from regulators worldwide.
