Brazil is set to announce a new joint initiative with the United States aimed at tackling organized crime, according to the country’s Finance Ministry. The program, known as Project MIT (Mutual Interdiction Team), will bring together Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to strengthen cooperation against transnational criminal networks.
The initiative focuses on integrating intelligence-sharing and conducting coordinated operations to intercept illegal shipments, including weapons and narcotics. Officials say the move is part of a broader effort to enhance bilateral collaboration on security issues and curb cross-border criminal activities.
The project aligns with ongoing discussions between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and U.S. President Donald Trump. Brazil’s Finance Minister Dario Durigan is expected to provide further details during a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
