California Doctor Pleads Guilty in Connection with Matthew Perry’s Overdose

A California doctor, Mark Chavez, 54, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in a Los Angeles federal court for his role in the fatal overdose of “Friends” star Matthew Perry last year. Chavez, who operated a ketamine clinic, admitted to conspiring to distribute ketamine to Perry, who was found dead in October 2023 at his Los Angeles home. Despite a plea deal, Chavez could face up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing on April 2, 2024.

Chavez was one of five individuals charged in connection with Perry’s overdose. Court documents revealed Chavez fraudulently obtained ketamine and distributed it through Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who then supplied it to Perry. Text messages between Chavez and Plasencia showed their plans to profit from the actor’s addiction. While Chavez has accepted responsibility for his actions, Plasencia has pleaded not guilty.

In addition to Chavez, Perry’s live-in personal assistant, a street dealer, and another alleged drug dealer known as the “ketamine queen” have also been implicated. Perry had been undergoing ketamine treatment for depression, but toxic levels of the drug were found in his system at the time of his death. Authorities have accused the defendants of contributing to Perry’s tragic passing by prescribing and distributing the dangerous doses of ketamine.
