Charlie Colin, a founding member and former bassist of the rock band Train, has passed away at the age of 58. His sister confirmed the news. Details surrounding his death remain scarce, but TMZ reported that Colin slipped in the shower and fell while housesitting in Brussels, Belgium. His social media profile indicated he was living in Belgium at the time.
Train paid tribute to Colin on social media, highlighting his unique bass playing and contributions to the band’s success. “He was THE sweetest guy and what a handsome chap,” the band said. “His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar work helped get folks to notice us in SF and beyond. I’ll always have a warm place for him in my heart. You’re a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels.”
Formed in San Francisco in 1993 by Pat Monahan, Rob Hotchkiss, Jimmy Stafford, Scott Underwood, and Colin, Train achieved stardom with their 2001 album and single “Drops of Jupiter,” earning Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance. Colin left the band in 2003 due to substance abuse issues but continued to perform with other bands, including projects with former bandmates Hotchkiss and Underwood.
