Elon Musk Predicts AI Could Run for U.S. President by 2032

During his appearance at the 10th annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk made a surprising prediction about the future of artificial intelligence in politics. Musk suggested that by 2032, an AI candidate might be capable of contesting for the U.S. Presidency. Known for his leadership roles at SpaceX, Tesla, and social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Musk humorously queried whether the AI presidential contender might resemble “Transformers” or be more akin to a diffusion model of AI.

Musk has frequently voiced concerns about AI’s influence on democracy, noting that if AI surpasses human intelligence, it could potentially undermine democratic systems. He indicated that artificial general intelligence (AGI), which he defines as smarter than the smartest human, could be realized very soon, estimating its arrival within the next two years. His remarks reflect ongoing discussions about the rapid advancement of AI technology and its implications for society.

Further contributing to the AI discourse, Musk highlighted challenges in AI development, such as electricity constraints and chip shortages. These issues are currently impacting the training of new AI models, including Grok 2, Musk’s initiative aimed at competing with established AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Grok-1.5, another model from Musk’s xAI, is set to introduce capabilities for processing a vast array of visual information and will soon be available for testing.
