After five days on the run, 17-year-old Shane Pryor, an escaped prisoner, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service on Sunday evening in Philadelphia. Pryor, who had been at large since his escape on Wednesday, was taken into custody on a SEPTA bus at the intersection of 3rd Street and Roosevelt Boulevard in North Philadelphia. U.S. Marshals Service Supervisory Deputy Rob Clark confirmed Pryor’s capture, noting that he was found carrying a handcuff key.
Pryor’s escape initiated a widespread manhunt following his flight from Juvenile Justice Services Center custody outside of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he was originally taken for treatment of a hand injury. Surveillance footage showed Pryor inside the Hub for Clinical Collaboration shortly after his escape, and later being picked up by 18-year-old Michael Diggs in a cream-colored Ford. Diggs was later detained and criminally charged for aiding Pryor’s escape. The teen was also spotted at a Target store in Northeast Philadelphia, which eventually led to his arrest.
Shane Pryor is awaiting trial for the 2020 murder of Tanya Harris in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia. According to investigators, Pryor and another male allegedly solicited sex from Harris before Pryor shot her in the head. Pryor initially provided police with a false account of the events, claiming an unknown adult male was the shooter. However, surveillance footage contradicted his statement, showing him with a teenager, not an adult, at the time of the crime. Pryor’s attorney, Paul DiMaio, expressed relief at his client’s safe capture and is now focusing on his defense in court.
