Florida rapper Julio Foolio, legally known as Charles Jones, was shot and killed early Sunday morning in a Tampa hotel parking lot. His lawyer, Lewis Fusco, confirmed his death to CBS News affiliate WTSP-TV. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Tampa North, where two cars were fired upon, resulting in four individuals being hit by gunfire, according to Tampa Police spokesperson Jonee Lewis. Police are awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner to verify the identity of Jones among the victims.
Julio Foolio was in Tampa celebrating his birthday and had initially booked an Airbnb, but was asked to leave due to the number of guests. He then moved to the Holiday Inn, where he was reportedly ambushed, Fusco told WTSP. With over 1 million Instagram followers, Foolio had shared his Tampa birthday plans on social media. Three other individuals were injured in the shooting, but hotel guests were not evacuated, although police were on the scene to assist them if necessary.
Tampa police are actively investigating the shooting and are calling on the public for assistance. They are urging anyone with videos or information regarding the incident to come forward. “If you saw something or heard something, any little detail can help us figure out what happened this morning,” Lewis said at a news conference.
