Diane Keaton, the iconic actress known for her unforgettable roles in Annie Hall, The Godfather trilogy, and Father of the Bride, has passed away at the age of 79. The news was confirmed by producer and friend Dori Rath to CBS News, with People Magazine reporting that Keaton died in California on Saturday, October 11. Keaton, who was born in Los Angeles in 1946, enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades, earning critical acclaim for her work with directors such as Woody Allen and winning an Academy Award for her performance in Annie Hall.

Keaton began her career in theater, appearing in the musical Hair at age 22, before moving to film with her debut in Lovers and Other Strangers (1970). She gained international recognition as Kay Adams in The Godfather series and later starred in a string of Woody Allen films, including Manhattan and Love and Death. Known for her distinctive style and comedic talent, Keaton was nominated for the Oscar three additional times for Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give. She adopted two children later in life and continued acting, with her last film being Summer Camp in 2024.

Bette Midler called Keaton “hilarious, a complete original,” while Ben Stiller described her as “one of the greatest film actors ever.” Co-stars from her iconic films, including Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Mandy Moore, praised her generosity, talent, and enduring charm. Nancy Sinatra added that Keaton’s legacy would continue to shine through the art she left behind, honoring her as “a very special person and an incredibly gifted actor.”
