Hunter Biden has voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit against Fox News for broadcasting a fictional “mock trial” show that featured nude photos and videos of him, his lawyers announced on Sunday. The series, titled “The Trial of Hunter Biden: A Mock Trial for the American People,” aired on Fox Nation in October 2022 and depicted Hunter Biden in a fictional trial for crimes he has not been indicted for. The show was removed in April 2023 under the threat of a lawsuit from Biden’s attorneys.
According to ABC News, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, dropped the suit with plans to refile it against new defendants, as part of a revised legal strategy. A Fox News Media spokesperson reiterated that the lawsuit was “politically motivated” and “devoid of merit.” Requests for further comments from both Hunter Biden’s and Fox News’ legal teams went unanswered.
The lawsuit’s dismissal occurred shortly after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race amid pressure from fellow Democrats. The series portrayed Hunter Biden on charges of illegal foreign lobbying and bribery, featuring explicit content, which Hunter Biden’s legal team claimed was defamatory and without merit.
