Iran Warns of ‘Irreparable Consequences’ After Attacks Near Bushehr Nuclear Plant

Iran has sharply criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency, accusing the UN nuclear watchdog of inaction that it says is “emboldening aggression” against nuclear facilities. In a letter addressed to the agency’s director, Iran’s atomic energy chief Mohammad Eslami stated that the country’s only operational nuclear power facility, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, has been targeted four times in recent incidents.

Eslami revealed that the most recent attack occurred near the plant on April 4, resulting in the death of a security personnel and injuries to others. He warned that repeated strikes in the vicinity of an active nuclear reactor significantly raise the risk of radioactive leakage, which could have devastating consequences not only for Iran but also for neighboring countries and the wider environment.

Calling the attacks a clear violation of international law, Eslami criticized the IAEA’s response as insufficient, arguing that mere expressions of concern fail to deter further aggression. He urged the agency to take more decisive action, warning that continued inaction could lead to escalating threats against nuclear safety and regional stability.
