Karoline Leavitt to Leave White House Press Secretary Role

U.S. President Donald Trump said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her role at the end of August, marking the departure of one of his most trusted advisers ahead of the November midterm elections. Leavitt, 28, said she plans to spend more time with her young children after recently returning from maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May.

Leavitt joined Trump’s 2024 campaign and later served as his transition spokeswoman before being appointed press secretary. She became the youngest person to hold the position and, alongside White House communications director Steven Cheung, helped reshape the administration’s approach to the media. The White House expanded access for podcasts, newsletters and digital outlets while also introducing a more selective system for determining which journalists could cover the president.

Following her departure, Leavitt is expected to remain involved in Trump’s political movement as an outside communications adviser and party operative. Trump praised her performance, calling her one of the best White House press secretaries in history. Her exit comes as the administration faces heightened scrutiny over reports concerning security measures used during Trump’s departure from a NATO summit in Turkey last month.
