Goey Charles, a 33-year-old man, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the killing of his pregnant girlfriend, Vanessa Pierre, in October 2020. The tragic incident unfolded when surveillance footage captured Charles dragging the lifeless body of Ms. Pierre from a car and callously dumping her on the side of Horace Harding Expressway in Bayside, Queens. The evidence presented during the trial pointed to a heart-wrenching act, with Charles exhibiting a remorseless disregard for the woman who was soon to be the mother of his child.
Queens District Attorney Melina Katz emphasized the severity of the crime, seeking the maximum sentence due to its brutality and Charles’s unrepentant disposal of Ms. Pierre’s lifeless body. The prosecution’s efforts aimed to ensure justice in the memory of Vanessa Pierre, whose promising life was tragically cut short. While the sentence doesn’t bring her back, it serves as an acknowledgment of the gravity of the crime committed.
The chilling video footage showcased the harrowing sequence of events as Charles first appeared alongside a visibly moving Ms. Pierre in the car. However, an hour later, he was captured dragging her motionless body from the vehicle and leaving her on the sidewalk. The investigation revealed Ms. Pierre was six months pregnant with Charles’s child at the time. Her sister, Melissa Pierre, described Vanessa as someone who never engaged in altercations and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her baby. Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder, almost three years after the horrific incident, delivered the verdict of second-degree murder, ensuring Charles faces the consequences of his reprehensible actions with a substantial sentence behind bars.
