Michael Bloomberg Contributes $50 Million to Support Kamala Harris Campaign

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made a significant contribution to Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign by donating $50 million to Future Forward USA Action, a nonprofit aligned with her main super PAC, Future Forward. This donation comes just eight days before the election and marks a shift in Bloomberg’s involvement compared to the last presidential election cycle, where he was more actively engaged in campaigning for Joe Biden.

Despite being less visible this election season, Bloomberg’s decision to support Harris has been influenced by pressure from high-profile figures such as Bill Gates and Reid Hoffman. Bloomberg, who has previously expressed concerns over Harris’s readiness, appears to have warmed to her, reportedly speaking positively about her potential in recent conversations with business executives. This latest donation brings his total contributions to Democrats this cycle to $97 million, making him the second largest donor after George Soros.

Bloomberg’s financial backing this election cycle, while substantial, is still less than half of the $95 million he contributed during the 2018 midterms. His complex relationship with Biden remains “frosty,” following his costly 2020 presidential run that resulted in a lack of significant achievements despite his $1.1 billion personal investment. In contrast, his earlier donations during the Trump administration exceeded $250 million across the 2018 and 2020 election cycles.
