Nasdaq Slips as Chip Stocks Weigh on Wall Street

Wall Street opened mixed on Thursday, with the Nasdaq Composite declining as losses in chipmakers and data centre-related stocks weighed on technology shares. The broader market remained relatively subdued following the previous session’s rally, which was driven by the Democrats’ sweeping victory in the midterm elections.

At the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 330.63 points, or 0.62%, to reach 53,686.75. In contrast, the S&P 500 declined 12.86 points, or 0.17%, to 7,675.76, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 198.95 points, or 0.77%, to 25,537.57.

The contrasting performance of the major indexes highlighted continued pressure on technology stocks, particularly chipmakers and companies linked to data centre infrastructure. While the Dow advanced, weakness in the technology sector dragged the Nasdaq lower, reflecting a cautious start to Thursday’s trading session as investors assessed the broader market outlook following the recent post-election rally.
