Netflix Shares Slide 6% as Weak Profit and Ad Outlook Raise Growth Concerns

Netflix shares fell 6% in premarket trading on Wednesday after its weaker profit outlook and reduced advertising revenue forecast heightened investor concerns about slowing growth and intensifying competition in the streaming industry. The stock has declined more than 26% this year, potentially wiping out around $19 billion in market value if the losses continue. Third-quarter revenue rose 11.8% to $12.87 billion, in line with analysts’ expectations but marking the slowest growth in nearly three years.

The streaming giant faces mounting pressure from rivals such as YouTube, TikTok, Amazon and Disney, as viewers increasingly turn to free, user-generated and short-form video content. Netflix also lowered its 2026 advertising revenue forecast to approximately $2.7 billion from $3 billion. The company, which stopped reporting subscriber numbers in 2025, is also dealing with a maturing market and challenges in content performance. Following the earnings announcement, more than 20 brokerages lowered their price targets for the company’s stock.

In response to the slowdown, Netflix is reshaping its leadership and programming strategy to strengthen content production and improve audience engagement. The company recently replaced Chief Creative Officer Bela Bajaria, announced the departure of film chief Dan Lin and cut around 6% of its workforce. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged that the company could improve its performance, while analysts believe the challenges remain manageable. However, Netflix continues to trade at a higher forward earnings valuation than Disney and Comcast, placing greater pressure on the company to deliver stronger growth and compelling content.
