Rare “Friends” Scripts, Lost in London Trash, Head to Auction after 25 Years

In a surprising turn of events, original scripts from the iconic “Friends” series, specifically parts one and two of “The One With Ross’s Wedding,” are set to go under the hammer after being discovered in a London trash can 25 years ago. The 1998 episodes marked the season four finale and followed the humorous escapades of Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler, and Rachel as they traveled to England for Ross’s wedding. Ordered to be destroyed after filming to prevent leaks, the scripts were found by a retired studio staff member who stumbled upon them in a bin a few weeks after production wrapped up.

The unnamed former staff member, recalling the discovery, mentioned, “I found them in a bin a couple of weeks after filming had finished. It was part of my job to ensure everything was tidy and no rubbish was left around. I wasn’t sure what to do with them, so I just put them in my office drawer.” Having forgotten about the scripts for years, the ex-staffer recently decided to have them evaluated by Hansons Auctioneers, presenting a unique opportunity for avid “Friends” fans to own a piece of the show’s history.

Amanda Butler, head of operations at Hansons Auctioneers, expressed uncertainty about the potential auction outcome, stating, “We’re guiding them at £600-£800 [roughly $765-$1,022], but thanks to the show’s huge global appeal, who knows where the hammer may fall.” Despite the passage of 20 years since the series finale, “Friends” continues to be cherished by millions worldwide. The scripts are set to be available for bidding on Friday, creating a buzz among fans eager to own this unexpected and rare piece of television memorabilia.

In a separate note, fans of the beloved series are still mourning the sudden death of Matthew Perry, who portrayed Chandler Bing in “Friends.” Perry passed away last fall from the “acute effects of ketamine,” leaving a void in the hearts of those who fondly remember his contributions to the show.
