Timothy Busfield Surrenders in New Mexico Over Child Sexual Abuse Allegations

Actor-director Timothy Busfield surrendered to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Tuesday after being accused of sexually abusing two young cast members on the set of the Fox crime drama “The Cleaning Lady.” According to a criminal complaint and arrest warrant affidavit, the case involves 11-year-old twin boys who alleged Busfield inappropriately touched them over a two-year period when they were seven and eight years old during production.

Busfield, 68, who served as an executive producer and began directing episodes around the end of Season 2 in 2022, was booked into the Bernalillo County jail without bond after the arrest warrant was issued on Monday. Shortly before turning himself in, Busfield posted a video online denying all allegations, calling them “lies,” and stating he was confident he would be exonerated.

He has been charged with child abuse and two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor. Investigators said one child reported repeated incidents of Busfield touching his private areas over clothing during breaks in filming, while the other also reported being touched but was less specific. Busfield told police he may have had physical contact such as tickling or lifting the boys in a playful manner, and suggested the allegations could be revenge after the twins were reportedly replaced in the show’s final season.
