Incoming border czar Tom Homan has issued a stark warning to mayors of sanctuary cities opposing President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed mass deportation policy. Responding to Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s declaration to resist federal deportation efforts, Homan directly threatened Johnston during a televised appearance, saying, “Me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing; he’s willing to go to jail. I’m willing to put him in jail.” Johnston, who anticipates public disobedience over what he terms the harsh treatment of migrants, has stated he is unafraid of the legal consequences of defiance.
Speaking in Eagle Pass, Texas, Homan emphasized that mass deportations will proceed as planned, following what he described as a “mass illegal immigration crisis.” He cautioned state and local governments against opposing federal deportation initiatives, warning detractors with the firm statement, “Don’t test us.” Homan commended Texas law enforcement and the National Guard for their proactive measures, asserting their role in safeguarding both state and national security.
Homan reiterated that resisting federal mandates to enforce immigration laws is a felony, urging compliance from all states and local authorities. He criticized other mayors and governors for their opposition, declaring that such resistance undermines border patrol efforts. Homan defended the deportation strategy as essential to restoring border integrity, stating, “The country needs a secure border, and our efforts will not be wasted by non-compliance.”
