UN meeting highlights: Russia opposes world power’s bid seeking probe into Syrian chemical attack

In one of the latest developments in the United Nations, the Russian representative has opposed the world power’s bid seeking a detailed investigation into the Syrian chemical attack which killed nearly eighty people including children and women and left many other innocent people injured. The resolution introduced by the United States, the United Kingdom and France has been foiled by Russia in order to protect its ally, Syria, using its veto power as it is one of the five countries enjoys the veto power in the United Nation’s Security Council.

The permeant members of the United Nation’s Security Council such as China, France, Russia, the United Kingdome and the United States hold a special status in the council because of its veto power. It is not the first time the Russian authorities are using their veto power to protect its ally. It is the eighth time. Interestingly, this time, China has abstained from voting. In six out of eight times in which Russian came as a defender of Syria’s Assad regime, China was there with them. It is learned that if the resolution had been passed by the council, the Syrian government would have submitted all the details regarding their air force operation. As per the report, Russians are irked by the way in which the US reacted on the chemical attack allegation. Immediately after the chemical attack, suspecting the involvement of the Syrian air force, the US shot a missile over the Syrian air force camp.
